ナパのブランニューワイナリーの紹介

ナパ・ヴァレーの銘醸ワインを造り出してきた「ベクストファー・ビンヤード」は、有名なト・カロン、ドクター・クレ イン、ラス・ピエドラス、ジュルジュIII、ミッソーリ・ホッパーなどから著名ワイナリーが求めてやまない秀逸な葡萄が作られる。 そのベクストファービンヤードの中でも一番最近手に入れた銘醸畑(2010 年）は、セント・ヘレナの西斜面に位置する伝説の区画（Hayne)を元の所有者であるWilliam Bowers Bourn IIの名前にちなみ「ボーン・ヴィンヤード/Bourn Vineyard」となずけられ。ここから、社長のデヴィッド・ベクストファー氏が初めて自社醸造のワインを リリース。ワインメーカーは「ブノワ・トゥケ氏」ボルドー出身のフランス人。ミッシェル・ロランに師事後アメリカに渡り、アン ディー・エリクソンの元で修業、マグレ(Ch.Bernard Magrez のNapa)、ハワインの名前は日本語で「KATA/カタ」。デヴィッド・ベクストファー氏自身も行う空手の「型」から 命名。武道や舞踏の最も重要なスタートするポジジョンを表し、そのイメージをワイン名としたそうです。

In the Saint Helena appellation of the Napa Valley lies a vineyard with a heritage stretching back to the early days of California history – the historic Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard.

Situated on the sloping, valley-floor bench lands of the Mayacamas Range and traversed by a forgotten creek-bed, this exceptional vineyard’s alluvial soils offer ideal conditions for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon and old-growth Petite Sirah fruit.

DAVID BECKSTOFFER

Kata flows from David’s vineyard expertise, his passion for the land and his connection to the Napa Valley, which is his home. The oldest son of grape grower Andy Beckstoffer, David was raised in the Napa Valley, where he developed a deep connection to the land and an intuitive ability to read a vineyard’s potential. Today, as President of Beckstoffer Vineyards, David stewards some of the most venerated vineyards in California. Kata is David’s first winemaking venture.

Bordeaux native Benoit Touquette brings exceptional talent, extensive experience and fresh perspective to the creation of Kata. Benoit is committed to creating wines that are elegant, nuanced and true to their origin. In Kata, he has realized the opportunity to create a wine that expresses the unique nature of one of Napa Valley’s legendary vineyard sites, the historic Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard.
